I know this is going to look like I am cheating by the scores but I promise you I haven’t! There have been a lot more negatives this season than one would like so the scores are a lot lower. I have just gotten lucky to have more positives than negatives so far. Days like this help me out a lot too! Trish: 9 Ben: -1 Don: -1 JB: -1. But I would say it is still anyones game! Because I could start picking really crappy and someone else could get the guy every game that hits homeruns. Or a lot of doubles. Anyways, keep it up guys!

Twins Chat Picks Rules

Rules are the same as last year. As a refresher, this is the scoring.

Single = 1
Double = 2
Triple = 3
Home Run = 4
Run = 1
RBI = 1
Stolen Base = 1
Walk = 1
Strikeout = -1
Double Play = -2
Fielding Error = -1

Also, You can only pick a player two times in a row before you must choose someone else. People last year really liked to pick DY a little too many times during the week. So therefore this rule came to life.

So every day check on the right hand side of the blog where I will have you choose your player for that day (Under “Twins Chat Picks”. Make sure you click on the right day). Or, you can get your player in via Twitter or by email (TwinsChatPicks@gmail.com) And remember, you can email from your phone through a text message! Don’t forget to put your pick in before the game because picks after the game starts won’t count! Any questions, please feel free to ask! Otherwise, Good Luck to everyone!

Opening Day is Here!

Well, not for the Twins. But today is the official first day for many teams. We Twins fans just have to wait a little bit longer. Gardy has already released his opening day line up. It is as follows:

1. Denard Span, CF
2. Tsuyoshi Nishioka, 2B
3. Joe Mauer, C
4. Justin Morneau, 1B
5. Delmon Young, LF
6. Jason Kubel, DH
7. Michael Cuddyer, RF
8. Danny Valencia, 3B
9. Alexi Casilla, SS

Pitching: Carl Pavano

What makes me the most happy about this line up that I am sure makes a lot of people happy with? Michael Cuddyer not batting 5th and instead in the bottom of the line up at 7. It only took Gardy some off months to come to this conclusion to bring him down in the batting order. Now lets see how long he stays down there.

Anyways, you have a day now to think of who you want to be your pick for the first day of the season. Rules are to follow later if you are unaware of our scoring system. Otherwise, good luck and enjoy baseball back in our lives!

Getting closer…

Hi Folks! As it is getting closer to the end of spring training and the beginning of the season, we have seen almost everyone return back from an injury and play a game. The exception of course is good ‘ol Michael Cuddyer who is still recovering from having a wart removed from his foot. Any who, I wanted to let everyone know, if the haven’t figure out already, that the chat room is still up and running and I look forward to another season of great Twins Chat! I did want to get everyone’s opinion on doing another “Twins Chat Picks” again this year. I know I wasn’t the most organized about it all but it was still a fun, friendly competition so if we want to do that again this year, we can. I also have a better phone to help me out this year so that will be nice! Any and all comments/concerns about doing that again this year would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I look forward to chatting with everyone here really soon!

Pitchers and Catchers report in just 10 days! I know I am so excited to be hearing baseball games on the radio and having something to look forward to read online when I get home from work. Somehow, the Timberwolves just don’t make happy news usually. Wild, sometimes. Anyways, what are you most excited about with spring training almost here? Anyone planning a trip to florida this year?

By the way, those who did Twins Chat Picks last semester, I am still going to get them done. My notebook is in Winona and I am currently in the cities so when I get that, I can hopefully get it done!

It’s playoffs time!!

Okay, you’ve spend the past 2 days listening about the upcoming playoffs. And I don’t know about you, but I hate watching ESPN and their love for the Yankees. Actually, their love for pretty much anyone but the Twins. (Side note. Watching the Randy Moss coverage this morning I heard this: “The city of Minnesota…”. Someone needs to let Adam Schefter know that Minnesota is a STATE and not a city.) Anyways, there are a few key items that I believe need to happen to be successful against the Yankees tonight. Here are some:

1) Liriano. I’m confident with his pitching. It’s his emotions I am worried about. He has never pitched in a playoff game and the game against Jimenez showed us that in high pressure games, sometimes his emotions get the best of him. Liriano needs to go out there, throw strikes and trust his defense. Don’t worry about striking every Yankee player out. Our defense will take care of that.

2) Intensity. Michael Cuddyer admitted that the guys stopped playing with intensity once they clinched the playoffs. I don’t blame them one bit for reducing their intensity while getting healthy for the playoffs. But I know it can take a little bit extra to get back up to the intensity where they need to be in order to beat the Yankees. So here is hoping that they found that and that it shows tonight.

3) Offense. Speaking of intensity, our offense needs to wake up. There are some that have stepped up (Mauer, Valencia, Thome) the second half but I am sick and tired of watching Hudson come up to bat only to strikeout, Kubel come up to bat with runners on and do nothing to help us get a run across, and Span failing to do his job in leadoff by getting on base. And with DY hitting in the number 4 hole tonight, he better show off some of his offense from the beginning of the season.

What are your thoughts on tonight’s game? How many games do you see this series going and what is the outcome? Also, I should be in the chatroom starting around 4pm for those who are as anxious as I am and want to talk about Twins. Yeah, I know. Long over due update on the Twins Chat Picks, and my thoughts on the year. It was a crazy summer and trying to keep up with this as well as I did in the beginning was very difficult. But hopefully with school back in session, my working will slow down and I can use this again to procrastinate against homework (as I am doing right now!). Thank you too to Ben13 who helped me get July’s scores together. These are the scores as of the end of July. I will work on the rest of August tonight and should have a full update tomorrow with the current scores.

Somehow, Romer is still leading the bunch and DrDon is following behind with his tail between his legs. Ben and I are going at it and JB is ready to take Romer’s lead. Stay tuned for the next update really soon!

First Twins Game For Me Tomorrow!

On an impulse today, I decided I wanted to go to the Twins game tomorrow since the game starts at 7:10 and I get off of work at 6. So I went online, found some tickets, asked a friend to go with me and now all I have to do is wait for work to be done with tomorrow! My tickets are nothing special, standing room actually, but I’m okay with that. One, it could rain so I will be hiding from the rain while others in their seats take cover. Two, I am closer to the beer this way and that’s a big plus (gotta make DrDon proud). And Three, Frankie is pitching. That should be fun to watch! I’ll give you guys a full update hopefully this weekend along with the newest Twins Chat Pick scores. And I will try to post pictures on my facebook page while I’m there so maybe Ben can give you guys the link to the pictures when they are uploaded.

Anyways, I’m ready to see a sweep tonight against the Royals. Baker was solid his last start and I suspect him to do well again tonight and that the bats will find holes to get runs home (because with the weather being cold and crummy, I don’t see many long balls happening tonight). Working tonight so you guys have fun with the game! Go Twins!

A much needed update

I know… FINALLY she is going to make a post. FINALLY I will know if I am leading in the Twins Chat Picks. FINALLY we will learn all about those chat room problems. Well… here you go!

First. Twins Chat Picks update. When I last updated it on 5/11, OB was in a solid lead. Here is where we stand now:

OB is still leading the pack. But me, Icon and Romer aren’t too far away! Also, for the record, the night that Kubel hit 2 homeruns against the Yankees, he scored 18 points! No one picked him though so we all missed out on a good night!

Howard’s blog today at the Star Tribune had an interesting post and a discussion that involved preferences between live chat and the blogs. I started blogging with the old blogs, but wasn’t getting that instant excitement and response after someone hits a homerun or a really big strikeout. This made me think then of finding a chat room where you can have that instant response. That is why I made my chat room that I have today. (Note: There is a new chat room link up and running. It is a private one and allows people to only enter by clicking off this site or saving it on their browser after they have been here.) I’m still new to this whole blog thing and I know there is no way to make everyone happy. I do what I can though and I hope that people do enjoy it as much as I do, that is when I can.

That’s all I can write for right now. I have to work tonight 4-11 so I will be able to catch the end of the game. Enjoy it everyone!

TCP update and Thoughts from past week

I’ve crawled out of my weekend hole of work and can finally update this thing. I’m sorry for not putting up a thing on Sunday for the picks. You could say I was out of it Saturday night from exhaustion and then going back to work early on Sunday it all completely slipped my mind. Anyways… here is the updated scores from the weekend.

So thoughts from this past weekend. I was surprised when we lost the first two games against the Orioles, since they had just recently swept the Red Sox. We left way too many runners on the base pads, and still do, but hopefully the clutch hitting will start happening sooner than later. Liriano showed us that he is still in fact human and can lose a game, which is really too bad, I liked the idea of having a bionic pitcher.

And after this weekend, I hope some Punto bashing subsides. While he has been only average with this bat, he showed us that he can still hit and hit well in the 2 spot. While we won’t see him in the 2 hole often, it was nice to see that he can produce there.

Been hard to not see Mauer in the lineup everyday with his bruised left heel. Although, Ramos was off to a smashing start and it’s too bad that we can’t keep him around, that or it’s too bad that Butera doesn’t have a good bat. Either way, it will be nice to have Mauer back tonight catching (so they say) and hopefully driving in runs.

Word is, it is supposed to stop raining and the game will be played. We’ll see if that actually happens.
