My Meeting with Rod Carew

One of the things I was looking forward to the most over Twinsfest was having my picture taken with Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew. If you didn’t already know, my grandfather pitched batting practice for the Twins back in the 60′s and 70′s. Therefore, he knew these guys. We found out that Harmon wasn’t going to be at Twinsfest due to him having his gallbladder removed. That was sad news for me because I was told Harmon and my grandpa were close friends. But that left Rod. And so when I went up to take my picture with Rod, I asked him if he remembered a Gordon Crichton who pitched batting practice to him. And to my surprise, he did! He told me how he threw great batting practice and was a great man. It was so fun to have Rod remember my grandpa and to be able to hear first hand for a legend how he was a great person. It is a moment I will never forget.
